Michelle's First Nest

Michelle had a chance to meet our wandering turtle this morning on her Pensacola Beach patrol. It was just the start of her good day though -- she found her first nest! A loggerhead (Caretta caretta), about two miles east of our Wandering Wendy.

This is a busy beach with lots of traffic. If you look carefully here, you can see the tire tracks. This mama laid her eggs directly under the tread... We roped off the area so beach emergency vehicles, like Life Guards and Police, will know there are eggs there now... Don't want them to get crushed!

In about two months, Michelle's first hatchlings should make their appearance. Great job Michelle! This isn't a hatchling, but it sure is a cute platypus sand castle!
