Flamingo Update

For those interested in finding the Escamabia County Flamingo, the most recent sighting was this morning in the Fort Pickens area of the park. Guess he's headed west for a spell :)

We saw the Flamingo this morning (Sat)just east of Opal Beach on the soundside. We were able to sail in on our catamaran and watch it- beautiful!

We saw the flamingo Sunday 9/28 around opal beach on the sound. This was our second siting, the first was two weeks earlier, same place, same bird. Does anyone know what will happen to this bird as the weather cools? Should we be concerned for it's safety?

Does anyone know if this bird will be safe as our weather gets colder? Should we be concerned enough to contact an authorirty on this and have then come out to see what sould be done?

Hi Terry -

Thanks for posting about your sighting, and for your concern for the flamingo. We (the biologists at the National Seashore) are keeping an eye on the flamingo and working with other experts, like the good people at Audubon, on relocating the bird if it becomes necessary.

Please keep us posted on any future sightings! We do try to go out several times a week, but it helps to hear from others as well!
